Radio and Ramadan

Radio studio slidersOfcom is to issue 29 temporary radio broadcast licences (SRSLs) for stations to broadcast during Ramadan later this year.

Each year we receive lots of applications to broadcast temporary radio stations during Ramadan, which this year begins in August.

These radio stations broadcast to the Muslim community within a 3km (2 mile) radius of their chosen transmitter site, for the full period of Ramadan and Eid, which lasts 32 days in total.

Earlier this year we awarded 16 licences for locations where there was only one applicant.

Temporary licences

In areas where more than one application is received, Ofcom awards a licence by way of a draw.

That draw took place yesterday and further 13 temporary radio broadcast licences (SRSLs) were awarded.

All applicants were invited to Ofcom to see the draw, and you can watch the draw by clicking on the video above.

Further details of the draw are available here.
