Protect your children in a digital world
Multi-channel TV and the internet mean we now have more information and entertainment at our fingertips than ever before.
They have transformed how and what we watch, as well as the way we work, shop, bank and view the world around us.
Digital TV and the internet also provide tremendous opportunities and benefits for children – both in helping them to learn and keeping them entertained and amused.
But there will be programmes you don’t want children to watch, and on the internet there will be web sites which are not suitable for them or appropriate for someone of their age.
Video and guide
Ofcom research found that 57% of children aged 8-15 mostly watched TV without an adult in the room.
Similarly, half of all children aged 8-11 and two-thirds of those aged 12-15 mostly use the internet without an adult present.
That’s why we have published a video guide illustrating how to use parental locks on digital TV so that you can protect your children from programmes or films you don’t want them to see.
There are also tips for keeping your children safe online and alongside the video is a consumer guide – for you to download and keep – which includes information on further resources available.
