Media literacy bulletin

Ofcom’s latest media literacy e-bulletin [pdf]  is out today and reports on a wide range of activity.

It includes news on the launch of the BBC’s First Click campaign, which is a major new media literacy campaign to encourage those who have never used the internet to take the first steps to get online.

The October bulletin also reports on the launch of a new social networking safety programme for primary schools, as well as an innovative crowdsourcing approach to help ‘Fix the Web!’ for disabled people.

There are details of the winners of a number of awards and an early preview of next year’s Safer Internet Day in February.

Research

The bulletin also includes the headline findings from new EU Kids Online research.

The research – based on interviews with 23,000 young people across Europe – reveals that more than one in eight children have been bothered or upset by online content,.

However, it also found most children had no upsetting experiences and the increasing numbers of children online also brings more opportunities.

The bulletin also includes news from Northern Ireland, information on the latest campaigns and dates for your diary.
