dab-radioAlmost 90% of the UK population are regularly tuning into the radio, according to the latest industry figures.

They reveal that in the last quarter of 2009, 46 million adults listened to their favourite radio station each week.

The figures from the Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR) also show that the number of listeners owning a DAB digital radio has increased by 13% year on year.

More than 17 million adults now live in a household which has a DAB receiver and radio digital listening hours are also up 11% year on year.

Mobile phone

At the same time radio listening via mobile phone is continuing to grow steadily.

The RAJAR research shows that 6.7 million listeners tuned in this way during the last three months of 2009 -– up by half a million from the same time last year
