Rental charges
When you sign up for a fixed line phone, your charges come in two main parts.
Firstly, there are the charges for your calls/services you use.
Then there’s a line rental charge (which you normally pay in advance) which is needed to maintain the telephone network which is providing your service.
The price you pay for line rental is decided by your service provider. So if you’re unhappy with it, you’re perfectly free to shop around and see if you can do better elsewhere.
At the moment, if you want a fixed line broadband service you’ll still have to pay a line rental charge – whether or not you want a telephone service.
So if you want broadband, but want to avoid that rental charge, you may want to explore broadband through a mobile.
